It’s the BIG one this Sunday night! Gauteng and Mpumalanga are finally going head to head for the Clash of the Choirs Season 3 title.
It certainly hasn’t been an easy road for choirmasters Kelly Khumalo and JR. Both choirmasters have had to start from the ground up and build their teams from scratch. Who could ever forget the frustration these two had to encounter in the streets of Johannesburg and Nelspruit, when their respective Clash campaigns were still in their genesis?
After finally managing to put together choirs that they felt would put up a fierce fight, Kelly and JR then had to contend with fierce competition by way of Bucie, Busiswa, Penny Penny, iFani, Sfiso Ncwane and their choirs, now fallen, who all wanted the title as badly as they did.
There have been plenty tears, and lots of drama that has brought us to this historic moment (for the first time in Clash history, a woman might walk away with the crown) but after all is said and done, Gauteng and Mpumalanga can be proud of themselves for arresting us all with their brilliance on the Clash of the Choirs stage and continuing to display their vocal prowess with magnificence and grace.
We pit Mpumalanga and Gauteng against each other and take a look at their strengths, going into this Sunday’s finale and try to figure out who will walk away with the crown.
Originality
JR and Mpumalanga take this one. Who could ever forget the choir’s unique rendition of “Don’t Cry for me Argentina”, that had the entire studio audience and our judges drowning in their tears? That was certainly not the only performance executed with the handling that it deserved and as such, Mpumalanga never once found themselves in the bottom two this season.
Presentation
Team Kelly has managed to deliver an incredible feast for the senses, since the performance stage of Clash of the Choirs kicked off. We’ve been transported to ancient Egypt, India and even the plains of the Serengeti and have loved every moment of it. All of Mzansi will agree that Gauteng sounded great, but looked even better, this season.
Creativity
Kelly takes this one! From adding gripping chants, African dance and even a smatter of Bollywood-esque notes, Kelly and her choir were not afraid to spice things up.
Entertainment
Apart from being meticulous in their execution and delivery every time they hit the stage, Team JR brought it as far as entertainment is concerned. Mpumalanga managed to achieve this feat by incorporating current dance moves like ‘the nae nae’ to their choreography and infusing their songs with popular hits and memorable numbers that had everyone singing along.
It is pretty clear that this particular finale is too close to call and both provinces seem to be on even footing. Luckily, we put the ball in your court and allowed you to pick your winner.
