With the much-anticipated Survivor SA: Champions hitting our airwaves this weekend and Idols SA auditions approaching fast, prime pay-television channel M-Net confirmed today that there’s a third blockbuster reality show on its way: a brand new edition of the popular cooking competition MasterChef South Africa.
The South African MasterChef Season 3 auditions will be held in major cities around the country in February and March – the same months during which the Idols judges will be scouting the country for our next local singing sensation.
“Having three local versions of the biggest reality shows on one channel is quite a feat – and yet another first for M-Net,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “It’s a potent combination that will lead to many hours of television magic. But it’s also exciting to know that we will soon be shining the spotlight on more talented South Africans – whether they can cook up a storm or sing like an angel.
We encourage anyone who has always wanted to be part of these shows to try their luck – but pay special attention to the audition requirements, dates and venues – you don’t want to end up with a cold dish in an Idols queue.”
All the amateur cooks who want to impress the MasterChef SA judges with their unique culinary skills need to diarise these dates, according to their preferred audition city:
• Saturday, 15 February in Durban at Suncoast Casino, or
• Saturday, 22 February in Cape Town at Southern Sun The Cullinan, or
• Saturday, 1 March in Johannesburg at The Pivot Conference Centre (at Southern Sun Montecasino).
As was the case in the past two seasons, the open auditions for MasterChef South Africa require a pre-prepared cold dish. However, the process for subsequent audition rounds has been tweaked slightly. For everything one needs to know about MasterChef South Africa Season 3 auditions this year, visit www.mnet.co.za/masterchefsa and search for the MasterChef SA FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions). In the meantime, do take note that you have to be older than 18 and a South African citizen who has not cooked professionally before, to enter this competition.
If you’re the type of person who prefers to sing for their supper instead of cooking it yourself, the dates for Idols auditions are as follows:
• Saturday, 15 February – Johannesburg – Carnival City
• Saturday, 22 February – Durban – Playhouse Theatre
• Sunday, 9 March – Cape Town – GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World
• Saturday, 22 March – Pretoria – State Theatre
Idols SA is once again a co-production between M-Net and Mzansi Magic. For more info, go to www.mnet.co.za/idolssa.
