The Idols SA Theatre performances are all done. The contestants have left it all on stage. They can do no more. Now all that remains for the 29 singers who performed solo in the audition of their lives last week is the “Walk of Doom” down the blue neon corridor to hear the judges’ final verdict.
So, this week Sunday, we will find out who the Top 16 are. These sixteen singers will be the ones vying for South Africa’s vote on the big State Theatre stage in Pretoria.
In the meantime, the pertinent questions are:
Will it indeed be a sweet sixteen for the show’s two youngest contestants Nina Terblanche from Nelspruit and Loyiso Gijana from Uitenhage, who both entered Idols SA at the age of 16? Or will the judges tell them to finish school first and rather pursue a life in the limelight when they’re a little bit older?
Will Tebogo Louw and Lihle Buthelezi who were both eliminated at this stage of the competition last year, receive the good news this time around?
If Lihle doesn’t make it, will there still be a medical doctor on the Idols stage in the form of Mandla Bacela from Butterworth?
Will we in future hear more original songs from singer-songwriters John-Neil and Bridgitt Leahy?
Will small-town girl Dineo Moseki be moving to the big city to follow their dreams? And will the shy Karabo Mogane with the big voice have to leave Nelspruit?
Will it be a rags-to-riches story for car washer Mlondi Mkhize, orphan Sizwe Mthalane and bagpipe player Thami Shobede and Rhema Varrie, who is supporting his family financially? And will Idols SA have its very first drag artist extraordinaire in the Top 16?
Don’t forget to watch Idols SA this week to see whether your favourite made the cut. Idols SA Season 11 is screened on M-Net channel 101 on DStv and Mzansi Magic, channel 161, from 17:00. You can also tune into the Idols SA Extra channel, channel 199 on DStv, until the first Group Show starts on Sunday, 23 August.
