This week, choirmasters Bucie, JR and S’fiso packed up and hit Mpumalanga, the Eastern Cape and the Free State to scout for golden voices that could potentially help them snatch the Clash of the Choirs Season 3 crown. And what a journey it was!
Before auditions kicked off, our three choirmasters suited up and headed to Link FM, Rise FM and Motheo FM to get word out. The local on-air personalities instantly caught Clash of the Choirs fever (we don’t blame them) and proceeded to give impromptu auditions live, on the airwaves.
As soon as their media runs were put to bed, our choirmasters set to work and proceeded with the business of scouring their provinces for fresh talent.
It was tough from the start for JR, who had to wince through a couple of not-so-great auditions from Mpumalanga hopefuls.

The Eastern Cape however, proved to be good to songbird Bucie. Metropolitan Fast Forward Cards were handed out to Chuma’s choir, following their impressive rendition of “Uyinkosi Yamakhosi” – and in seconds, their audition date with Bucie was set.

Debbie’s gospel number saved the day and almost drove Mpumalanga choirmaster JR to tears. It would seem this is exactly the shot up the arm the province needed to get out of its funk. Barberton proved to be a bed of jewels just waiting to be mined and so did Nelspruit. The Free State also proved to be a thrilling rollercoaster ride for S’fiso, who experienced his fair share of disappointment and ultimately, victory.

When audition day came, Sipho knocked it out the park and earned himself a Blue Ticket, that guarantees him a spot in the final choir that will represent the Eastern Cape. An equally impressive Sisipho got a stern talking-to for almost ruining Bucie’s make up, while Refiloe’s Free State audition also earned her a Blue Ticket. Mpumalanga brought it too and Angela’s rendition of Beyonce’s “Cry” was enough to seal the deal.
After separating the chaff from the wheat, our choirmasters whittled down the numbers drastically, until they each had the final choir that will be fighting for hometown glory this season.
