Season three of Clash of the Choirs is upon us, and it promises to follow on the tremendous success of the past two seasons. Seven choirs formed across all seven South African provinces will battle it out each week for an incredible prize, and the title of South Africa’s best choir. They’re not doing it on their own, of course. They’ll each have a superstar choirmaster whose hunger to win will match theirs. Mzansi, meet your Clash of the Choirs season three choirmasters.

Kelly Khumalo
She has one of the biggest pipes in Mzansi; a sultry, raspy voice and killer dance moves. The songstress, who first burst onto the music scene with her hit Qinisela, has a choral background, so she’s sure to serve up some stiff competition.

JR
The success of Shugasmakx on last season proved that you cannot write off rappers in a singing competition. No doubt JR is going to “Show Dem”.

Penny Penny
Penny Penny is a musical legend! He’s dominated the Xitsonga music industry for over two decades and has become a “global cult music sensation.” Look out as he shows the youngins how it’s done.

Busiswa
We first heard the powerful vocals of Busiswa, famously known as Kalawa Chikita, on DJ Zinhle’s smash hit “My Name is”. Since then, she’s made one club banger after another. A powerhouse herself, she’s sure to create and lead a powerhouse choir.

iFani
The Umtata born isiXhosa rapper survived a car crash, depression, and a hijacking on his way to winning a 2014 SAMA Award for Best Rap Album. He’s used to turning lemons into lemonade and making all he touches turn to gold. Will his hands create a golden choir?

Bucie
The “Ngicel’indoda” hitmaker grew up in Klerksdorp, where she led a choir at her church. So you see, this won’t be her first rodeo.

Sifiso Ncwane
It’s common knowledge that church is the home of choral music, so for Gospel star Sifiso Ncwane, creating, molding and leading a choir should be second nature.

There you have it, Mzansi. These are your choirmasters. Now the question is, whose choir will you be backing?
