Vinny’s House: Black Coffee in the house

If you like it rich, black and full of flavor, then you’re in luck! This Sunday, 18 January 2015, Black Coffee, one of house music’s brightest stars, is set to drop an epic hour-long set on Mzansi Magic Music’s Vinny’s House.

Black Coffee, real name Nathi Maphumulo, is the epitome of excellence and has the accolades, as well as a dedicated global fan base to prove it. This talented mix master has been firing up dance floors across the continent and beyond with his tribally infectious, vocal-laced beats and has smashed records on his way to the top.

Who can forget his record shattering, 60-hour deejay set that saw South Africa and the world come to a standstill? How about that time in Ibiza when Hip Hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs specifically went to a club to hear the master play? The 10 (and counting) awards sitting in his trophy cabinet are proof that when you let your passion lead you, good things happen. We ran into Black Coffee at the official Vinny’s House launch party and picked Black Coffee’s brain about house music. Take a look at the video below.

State of Music Address

Join the rest of South Africa this weekend, as we celebrate life, love, music and everything in-between, with one of Africa’s favourite sons, Black Coffee. It’s on Mzansi Magic Music (DStv channel 321) from 19:00 to 21:00!

About Black Coffee
Black Coffee majored in Jazz Studies at Technikon Natal, before working as a backup singer for Madala Kunene together with schoolmates Mnqobi Mdabe (Shota) and Thandukwazi Sikhosana (Demor). Black Coffee, Shota and Demor later formed the Afro-pop group SHANA. In 2005 he launched his career with a remix of Hugh Masekela’s hit “Stimela” Later that year he released his self-titled debut album featuring collaborations with Thandiswa Mazwai, Hugh Masekela and the late Busi Mhlongo Black Coffee’s Africa Rising DVD and CD (triple CD) sold double platinum in the space of a month in 2012 and later won Best dance album at the 2013 South African Music Awards. Combining the irresistible dance floor groove of one of Africa’s best-loved DJ producers, Black Coffee, with the staging prowess of one of Africa’s most future-facing DJ/producers, Glenn Van Loggerenberg, the Africa Rising show at the Moses Mabhida stadium, was an audio-visual experience that will not be forgotten anytime soon.

The third episode of Bootcamp Mzansi got many people emotional and frustrated! The main issue of contention was Mulalo’s sudden decision to end his journey on the show and on a much sadder note, Siphokazi’s eviction.

Poor girl wept silly and got us all sad and feeling sorry for her. We hope she’s doing just fine! On a lighter note, MaBlerh and Hlengiwe allowed us some chuckles when they teased each other in the morning about their bodies. It was good to see that they could laugh at themselves!

Give Me That Bill Mzansi Ep 3: Wild and lucky!

In yesterday’s episode we saw some really huge bills that our contestants had accumulated. R16 100 is the biggest amount that any audience member has had to play to clear. Siyabonga and Kenneth were not at all phased by these bills and all they were keen on was to get the games started and have those bills paid!

The winner in the final round was Lonwabo who went straight into the semi-finals as a Wild Card – he was selected from the audience through a series of questions that singled him out from the rest of the crowd and as a Wild Card, went straight into the semi-final round.

Having succeeded through to the final round, Lonwabo won a full settlement of his bill which he had accumulated after buying an engagement ring for the girl he dearly loves. He won the girl and the money, some guys have all the luck!

Mbali and Otto had some of the smallest bills, R1000,00 and R1200,00 respectively. Mbali just had to replace money into her mother’s stokvel and Otto had rent still to pay. His weakness of clothes almost landed him on the streets! Watch his victory here:

One of the contestants, Zulegka had the biggest bill of R16 100, closely challenged by Kamza with a bill of R 16 000 and Itumeleng with a bill of R15 000; that’s a total of R47, 100 You better believe it, these were some of the bills! Kamza owes the bank for a loan he took and squandered. Zulekga also owes the bank for a loan he took to host a soccer tournament and Itumeleng wanted to clear his outstanding lobola debt.

All three gentlemen only managed to clear half of their bills and qualified for the semi-finals. Unfortunately Lonwabo took the single spot in the final round! Watch his victory here:

Isibaya Review: 11- 15 January 2014

It certainly has been a tough week for uMehlemamba. After taking time off his busy schedule to write Lerato a love letter, uRatos returned the letter – and it was full of corrections. Ewu!

Qondi intervened in yet another court case and surprisingly, Sithole took her advice. Have these two buried the hatchet and can they finally work in harmony? Her suitor, uSomahhashi, on the other hand finally allowed Blade to finish off Ngwebedla, after a bit of convincing of course. Unfortunately, the incident infuriated Mkabayi, who thinks Ndlovu is behind the shooting. As such, she has vowed to exact revenge.

Meanwhile, Mandla was more than happy to take all the credit, despite not having pulled the trigger.

Melusi was shipped off to a brand new school in Johannesburg and as soon as he got there, he made a new friend. MaMnisi made sure to regale the young man with stories about her late husband.

Iris’ water finally broke at the most unlikeliest of moments. Luckily, uS’khaleni and his trusted taxi were on hand.

After the chief had finally declared the war over, Mandla and Bongani decided to take advantage of Ngwebedla’s absence and got back to business. During celebrations that included copious amounts of meat and beer, an unlucky Mandla was shot by an unknown assailant. Kwanzima!

The drama continues this week on Isibaya. Find out if Mandla is dead, tomorrow at 20:30, only on Mzansi Magic!

Our Perfect Wedding: Age aint nothing but a number

Last night we witnessed our youngest bride of the season, Bontle and Litha’s big day. Their perfect wedding was a one-day affair organised by the groom himself.

Our young couple first had people talking when Bontle revealed her age and concerns about her mother’s reaction. “Getting married at 22! My mom’s going to kill me,” she said. Many debated whether 22 was too young for marriage.
Tshidi Mokoena Cornelia: There is no perfect age for getting married, any age over 18 is right, even over 40 you can get married, lenyalo le tswa ho Modimo!
Rebecca Mochela: Hai she’s too young for marriage and the fact that they only dated for a year. Hmmm I foresee danger!
Refilwe Mohami: If she’s ready, who are we to say otherwise?
Thato Vinolia Mojakhomo: Getting married at 22 is more like leaving the party at 21:30.
Katalia Skattie: I don’t think she is too young…marriage is all about love, respect, honesty and commitment. How lucky she is to have found someone to ask for her hand in marriage, it is not about age but finding someone to marry/marry you. If God wants them to be together no one will change it.
Sasa Masabatha MaDube Phakani: I got married at 22…17 years later, I still am!
Sizwe Shinga: My wife was 22 years old and we are still madly in love after 13 years now in marriage. She was 15 when we fell in love.

With her mother’s approval in the bag, the only thing that stood in the way of Bontle’s perfect day, was finding the perfect dress. Our bride found herself another wedding gown just in time.
Ipeleng Miss-Peachez Perekisi: Eish that first dress was going to give me nightmares. You are wise. This one is perfect.
Sapholwethu Ndoni KaMasibiya Ngongoma: Good move, first dress was a horror.
Philile Dlamini: The 2nd dress was ayobaness, loved it!
Katlego Molope: She knows what she wants, I like her.

The two lovebirds went on to have a vibrant and youthful matrimonial ceremony that brought our groom to tears and left guests demanding more when Litha tried to get away with a shy peck on his wife’s lips.
Nuh Nzimande: That was like a brother to sister kiss….umqabulo ubalulekile emshadweni….lol
Mashoka Clementine: The kiss was perfect too. These people are born again Christians. They know what the Altar means. It isn’t a place for showing off but a place to be honored.
Thandiwe Mtshweni: Holy kiss haha, it looks like a brother to sister kinda kiss. It’s perfect for them though.
Primrose Khoza: When the groom was crying, #priceless moment.

After overcoming a few hurdles, both Litha and Bontle agreed that this was in deed a perfect wedding. Litha was also impressed with his groomsmen who met this “dress to kill” theme with their all-white suits.
Nombuso Nonkuh Mbatha: “Dress to kill, dance to kill, our perfect wedding, and perfect funeral” words of the groom.
Sibo Mufamadi: Wow…it was a perfect wedding indeed, decor, cake, their dance mmmmh!!!! May God bless your marriage guys as I see you are still young!!!
Karabo John: It was a perfect wedding, I liked the groomsmen’s suits.
Marcia Taela: They are beautiful indeed. Wow, congratulation guys! May God bless you, Amen!
Nyambi Madima: I loved the dance…man you know your thing…beautiful wedding guys.

Something’s Cooking came as a pleasant surprise from the talented singer, J’Something. His fans celebrate him for his soulful voice in the band, Mi Casa, and were excited about the cooking show. The first episode of Something’s Cooking received a lot of love and support from J’s fans. Check out some of the love that came through on the launch of the show:

“The show was created because of music”, said J’Something in an interview with True Love. The singer explained that his music career comes with a lot of fun and less personal space which he craved and eventually sought.

In creating his own space away from the madness that comes with music, the singer began cooking and tweeting his kitchen creations. He received a lot of positive feedback which encouraged him to either publish a cook-book or have his own cooking show.

Soon enough, Something’s Cooking was born and it has been appetizing food after delectable meals! Take a look at some of the dishes that were nothing short of mouth-watering:

Coffee ice-cream

Brioche Bread

The first season of Something’s Cooking ended on a high note. J’Something rocked some Mexican vibes in the last episode of the season. Watch how he showed us how to prepare the popular pub snack: Jalapeno poppers:

Give Me That Bill Mzansi couldn’t have come at a much better time! “Janu-worry” has the best of us by the throat with bills accumulated over the previous year. Kenneth Nkosi and Siyabonga Ngwekazi are crazy presenters that make every financial crisis seem less serious than it actually is!

You also want to get your bills paid and have watched the show, marvelling at each bill cleared. Last week alone saw some really big numbers, the biggest bill being R 16 000, 00! Some bills were down right unnecessary; one contestant needed to pay rent as he had spent his rent money on clothes. Can you imagine though?

Bootcamp Mzansi Ep3: Review

This week saw bubbly songbird Khanyo bow out of Bootcamp Mzansi. After impressing over the last couple of weeks with her determination and decidedly athletic training technique, the pint-sized songstress unfortunately made a call that saw her sing “salani kahle bhabhayi”.

The week started off on a high note, with the appearance of this week’s celebrity guest trainer, Isibaya’s Muzi Mthabela causing serious excitement in the camp. Our Bootcampers (the girls in particular) impressed with a spirited showing of determination and enthusiasm.

This week’s challenge also, was as entertaining as they come. The contestants were given the opportunity to get a 15-second head start, only if they answered a series of health-related questions. MaBlerh, Mary and Moitsi came out tops and as promised, were afforded the opportunity to get a leg-up.

Enter: Bongani. Despite not answering any of the questions posed by Nonhle, Bongani’s winning streak continued and Bo sprinted through the challenge to secure first place, leaving his competition in the dust. Bongani has won every challenge presented to our Bootcampers, since the mansion opened its doors. The prizes have definitely been rolling in and this week, Bongani chose to share his luxurious pampering session at the spa, with Hlengiwe.

Last week, Bongani chose to hand over his Gate Pass to Khanyo, who gladly took it. The catch? Khanyo would get 2% added to her total weight readings this week. That didn’t seem to worry her too much until this week’s Weigh-Ins came. After being told she had gained muscle, it became all too clear that Khanyo had put herself in a precarious position. Sure enough, at Elimination, she found herself in the bottom two and was subsequently sent packing.

Khanyo Eliminated

Moitsie got a stern talking to from Nonhle and some of the contestants, after it came to light that he has been slacking where his diet and exercise is concerned. Should he not show commitment to his weigh goals, he could find himself in the bottom two next week. And we all know how important Nonhle’s attitude scoring is. Is Moitsie in danger? Find out this Sunday, when Bootcamp Mzansi – Celebrity Edition continues.

Our Perfect Wedding: 5 Mistakes to Avoid

$
0
0

Last week, when it looked like the arrangements for Litha and Bontle’s big day would not all come together in time, our groom admitted that perhaps he had made a mistake.

“It was not a wise thing to co-ordinate everything on my big day,” he said. After a long day of running around getting his suit, shoes and the rings, Litha arrived at the reception hall to find the draping had not been done. He soon realised that he should have asked for more assistance in organising his wedding.

Many couples have made mistakes in organising their big day. Here’s a list of common mistakes you should avoid when planning your, or a friend’s, wedding.

Make sure you stay on the same page as your partner

You want a huge wedding and he just wants a small ceremony for close friends and family. Your dream wedding might not be what your partner has in mind. Remember to discuss your ideas and what kind of day you want with your partner before anything else. Decide on who takes control of which part of the wedding planning and have regular updates to ensure everyone knows the plan.

OPW_SamPage

Money Doesn’t Buy Happiness

Draw up a budget right in the beginning of your wedding planning and stick to it. Make sure it includes all the small costs that may crop up. Just because it’s expensive, it doesn’t mean it’s the best. “My high-priced florist and band were awful: The band didn’t sing the songs on our list, and the florist, who was said to be a ‘celebrity floral designer,’ skipped meetings and showed up two hours late for setup. Meanwhile, the wedding coordinator and makeup guy I found online were fabulous—and they charged very reasonable rates,” says Michelle, a bride from New York.

OPW_Budget

Booking your venue early

Unless your wedding is going to be at your or your parents’ home, booking a venue is one of the first priorities when planning a wedding because most places fill up fast. Decide on how many people you will be inviting and find a venue that will cater for your guests
.

OPW_Venue

Garden wedding? Have a Plan B.

Garden weddings are fresh and gorgeous and, with the right weather, make for a perfect wedding. But what happens if the weatherman is not on your side? What happens if you wake up on the morning of your big day to dark and heavy clouds, or even worse, a rainstorm? Most venues have a rain plan so remember to ask about that. Whether it’s an alternative venue inside or a tent for shelter, a rain plan is essential.

OPW_RainPlan]

Don’t Overdo the Dieting

Brides are always worried their weight and if they will fit into their wedding gowns but don’t let this take over your life. You
still need a well balanced diet to give you energy for all the running around you’ll be doing. Like our host Tumi said, get a dress to fit your body instead of forcing your body to fit into a dress. Just commit to eating healthy and exercising and you will be just fine.

Give Me That Bill Mzansi: New Rules

Siyabonga Ngwekazi and Kenneth Nkosi will be playing with the contestants to help them pay their bills! The next episode of Give Me That Bill Mzansi sees a range of new games and stranger bills. The stories that people have to tell about how they landed themselves in debt arre absolutely unbelievable!

For the second time since the show started, we have another loan shark story. Remember Gudeni’s story? This one is just more ridiculous! Some debts are not worth getting into and you will agree with us when you find out about the story behind this bill. You will also be shocked to find out how one can accumulate a water bill of R16,000! Ungaphuthelwa ke!

Ever wondered what would happen if there was to be a tie in the semi-final round? Do you think the pair goes head-to-head in the finals? You just have to wait and see how the game is played and the trouble that contestants have to go through in order to clear their debts!

And quite interestingly, for fruit lovers out there, there is a game you would definitely enjoy! It’s called “An Apple A Day” and as the famous line goes, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”! There’s also something for soccer fans in “Sh – Bill –Bo” which is all about a player’s skill on the pitch. There is a game for everybody to enjoy so there is more than enough reason for you to join in the fun!

Give Me That Bill Mzansi: Unfortunate end

Yesterday’s episode was a serious game changer! For the first time in the game, we had a tie in the semi-final round and thank goodness for Siyabonga Ngwekazi who was on standby to resolve the unexpected outcome! The tie-breaker was won by Mdu who went ahead to play in the final round.

We also had our second case of a loan shark bill and this time around, the contestant, Nokhaya, took out the loan to buy a pair of shoes that she wanted to wear at an outing with her friends. I mean cabanga ndoda! Atleast she walked away with 50% of the R2500,00 owed to the loan shark. Watch her victory here:

All for nice things

One of the strangest and rather unfortunate scenarios was Samuel’s story. The lad got a new job and having confirmed it, he went to the bank and took a R5000,00 loan. Ama gents decided on a celebration and whilst heading to the ‘turn-up spot’, he got robbed of the very loan he had taken! Bhadi lini kodwa leli? In a game of “Did you miss me”, Samuel managed to pay half of his bill. Akufani shem.

The biggest disappointment was of course Mdu’s outcome in the final round. Never in the history of the show, as of yet, has a contestant lost in the “Bill Crusher”! Mdu struggled to follow Kenneth’s directive and identifying his left hand side from his right hand side. It was a serious struggle struu! Watch Mdu’s loss here:

Too slow for the clock

Don’t be discouraged by Mdu’s loss, you can still win yourself extra cash by entering our weekly WeChat competition and stand the chance to win yourself R1000! Ungasali!

Bootcamp Mzansi: All eyes on Bonginkosi

If there’s one contestant who has stood head and shoulders above his competition over the last couple of weeks with his consistently solid showing during challenges, it definitely has to be Bonginkosi.

Moments after being introduced to Mzansi as one of the thirteen who would be competing for the Bootcamp crown, Bonginkosi sprinted to an inspired first class finish, that saw him score use of the Bootcamp Mzansi suite for a whole week. This victory marked the beginning of many, as his weigh-loss journey continues in earnest. His determination and dedication has seen him win every challenge presented to the contestants since the competition started. Does his impressive showing mean Bonginkosi just could be the one to walk away with the crown, come finale?

A lot has been said by his fellow Bootcampers about how “skinny” he is. However, as per Bootcamp Mzansi master Nonhle’s assertations, Bonginkosi’s particular type of build means he has to work twice as hard as the other contestants, to get rid of the extra weight. During last week’s Weigh-Ins, a disappointed Bonginkosi discovered just how difficult the journey will be for him. Instead of losing fat, Bonginkosi’s readings show how he has consistently gained muscle over the course of his stay in the house. It goes without saying that bulking up is not the objective.

One of many wins

As hungry as Bonginkosi is for the crown, it goes without saying that relaxing, will not do him any favours. MaBlerh, Tsepo, Moitsie, Hlengiwe , Mary and the rest of the gang have stepped up their game and have even shaken off debilitating injuries, in a bid to unseat Bonginkosi as challenge champion. Can he hold on to the crown? Find out tonight on Bootcamp Mzansi at 18:00. It’s on Mzansi Magic!
